With the transfer window now open many names have cropped up as clubs look to strengthen their sides as the race to the end of the season hots up. Manchester United may pull off the surprise transfer of the window with reports emerging they have targeted the former Real Madrid and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra according to the The Sun.
The much-travelled French international has been targeted by Jose Mourinho for whom he signed for at Chelsea in 2005, however he failed to make an impact and went on to play for Arsenal, Portsmouth and Real Madrid before moving to Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow.
The 31 year-old, currently with Marseille would be a shock signing for Manchester United should reports come to be true. With another French international wanting away from Old Trafford as Morgan Schneiderlin feels his future lies away from the famous club, Diarra is seen as the ideal replacement for the midfielder who could also replace the ageing Michael Carrick in the side when needed.
Mourinho appears to have a settled squad after a tough start to life in the Manchester United dugout and fans will be concerned with the possible arrival of Diarra who has often being involved in controversy during his football career, most notably at Lokomotiv Moscow when in 2014 after refusing to train with the club, he was released and fined £8.5m by Fifa for breach of contract.
However Mourinho will know what he is getting after signing the player for Chelsea and having also worked with him at Real Madrid.
With Manchester United looking like their old selves, fans will trust the decision of Mourinho if he should move for the player with the four signings their new boss has already brought to the club already looking like great additions.
